How to choose the perfect lamp
Knowing what lamps are available to you is the first step in choosing the perfect lamp. In general, they are table lamps, floor lamps and desk lamps. Lamps come in many different shapes, colours and styles to suit any preference. If you’re considering purchasing a lamp, here are some questions to ask yourself:
1. How much light do I need?
2. Would the lamp sit on a table or on the floor?
3. Do I prefer warm or cool light?
4. What style would compliment my other decor?
5. Will I need multiple lamps to light the space?
How much light does a room need?
When thinking about lighting for your room, you’ll need to consider how the room functions. Do you need soft, ambient lighting, or brighter task lighting?
When purchasing light bulbs, you’ll want to pay attention to the lumens, which tells you how bright your lamp will be. Bathroom lighting, for example, normally produces around 500 lumens per square metre. Living room lighting, on the other hand, may only produce 170-180 lumens per square metre. If you’re installing downlights in a bathroom that’s 10m², you should have around 5000 lumens in the room, which is around five downlights.
