What is a batten light?

A batten light is simply a single light fixture that is fixed to a ceiling. It’s typically either a long ceiling light, or features a light shade in a range of styles such as a ball, bell, rectangular, round or dome shape.

Traditional rectangular batten lights are often seen in garages, bathrooms and commercial applications such as in warehouses. Batten lights have however come a long way, and now come in a range of stylish designs to suit a range of interiors.

How high should board and batten be in dining?

Not to be confused with batten lighting, board and batten is a type of wall panelling that is often seen in dining rooms. It’s often used to add a rustic, farmhouse touch to the room.

In a dining room, board and batten is normally installed to a height of a metre from the floors. This allows it to be slightly higher than the height of the chairs and dining table. In some cases, board and batten can also be installed further up the wall, but rarely higher than your doorways.

Are LED battens any good?

In general, yes. Much like any other LED light, LED battens are known best for their energy efficiency. This means that they consume less power for every minute they’re in use, in comparison to other varieties of lights.

They also provide better performance than other lights, such as fluorescent, in terms of longevity and even light output. LED lights are also programmable to dim or even change colour, so you’ll have more control over your lighting.
