What is the difference between a buffet and a sideboard?

Buffet and sideboard are two terms used to describe the same unit, which is a long, low piece of furniture typically used for storage.

The only real difference between a sideboard and a buffet is where you choose to place it. Although it’s the same piece of furniture, you might call it a buffet when it’s in the dining room and sideboard when it’s anywhere else in the house.

How do you style a sideboard buffet?

How you style your sideboard or buffet will depend on where it’s placed and what sort of purpose it needs to function. Here are some ideas for what to place on their surface according to the room they’re in:
-Living room: Sculptures and figurines, flowers and greenery, vases and vessels, table lamps, candle holders, lanterns, oil burners, picture frames, pots and planters and trays.
-Dining room: Tealight holders, candles, table linens, ice buckets, gravy boats, salt and pepper shakers
and coasters.
-Entryway/hallway: Trays and decor bowls for keys, scale models and water features.

What do you do with a sideboard?

Your sideboard can be used in any way your heart desires, but it is traditionally used in the dining room as extra storage space and surface space for serving food, buffet-style.

Sideboards can be used to store table linens, extra cutlery, plates and serving dishes. When it’s not in the dining room, its storage spaces can be used for extra blankets, pillows, candles, cookbooks and other decor pieces when they’re not in use.

Using the surface space for home decor items is also a common use of a sideboard.
