Why are wool rugs better?
Wool is often regarded as the highest-quality choice for rugs - and for good reason. Wool is a natural, sustainable fibre that breaks down very slowly. This makes for long-lasting rugs that can be used in high-traffic areas. These high-quality rugs often come with a price tag to match, although given you’ll be replacing them less often, the upfront investment should work out in the long term.
How can I tell if a rug is wool?
To the untrained eye, telling between a synthetic and wool rug can be difficult. Thankfully, there are a few ways to tell if your rug is wool:-Price: Wool rugs often cost more than rugs of other varieties, so you should be wary of anything advertised as wool at a suspiciously low price.
-Feel: Wool rugs are soft and buttery, with fine fibres densely packed together.
-Burn: As a final resort, if you’re really unsure of the material of your rug, snip off a few fibres and safely burn them. Wool will burn much like hair, while synthetic materials will melt.
How to clean a wool rug
Cleaning a wool rug is easy with these five steps:1. Vacuum: Take a high-powered vacuum to your rug to remove any dirt.
2. Scrub: Using a brush with non-abrasive bristles, scrub your rug with a gentle cleaning solution and warm water.
3. Rinse: With clean water, rinse away the suds leftover from scrubbing.
4. Blot: Using a dry towel, blot your rug to remove excess moisture.
5. Dry: Allow your rug to dry fully in a spot away from direct sunlight to avoid bleaching.
