What is a pendant light?
A pendant light is a light that hangs from the ceiling on a chain, cord or rod. The style options for pendant lights are vast, with a variety of shapes, materials and colours available to suit any style of home decor. What differentiates a pendant light from other hanging lights, such as chandeliers, is that it typically has one light fixture rather than multiple. This, however, isn’t a hard rule, and some pendant lights will feature multiple light fixtures as part of their design.
Where should pendant lights be hung?
As a general rule of thumb, a pendant light should be hung above a table. Here are a few other ideas for where to hand pendant lights:-Living room: Hang your pendant lights above the coffee table or side tables.
-Dining room: A pendant light in a dining room looks best above the dining table.
-Kitchen: Pendant lights hung in a row over the kitchen counter or island are a stylish addition to this space.
-Bedroom: Two pendant lights on either side of the bed above your nightstands can be used as an alternative to bedside lamps.
How high should pendant lights be hung?
Pendant lights look best hung around 80-90cm above a table or countertop. This ensures the light is far enough away to not interfere with household movements whilst still providing ample light for your space. It also ensures your lights will be able to illuminate a certain space in your home rather than providing complete room lighting. If you’d prefer to measure from the ceiling, pendant lights should drop around 35-50cm from a standard 2.5m ceiling.
