What is bakeware?
The tools you use to bake are known as bakeware. This can include:-Baking dishes
-Mixing bowls
-Cocottes and ramekins
-Roasting pans
-Baking sheets
-Baking sets
-Baking accessories
-Cake pans
Each piece of bakeware, whether it’s a baking sheet or cake pan, is designed to help your baking creations come to life. Ramekins, for example, are usually made of ceramic, which conducts less heat to prevent the sides of your puddings and soufflés from burning.
How to use silicone bakeware
Silicone bakeware is growing in popularity, as home cooks and bakeries favour its non-stick properties. Here are some tips for using silicone bakeware if it’s your first time:1. Don’t grease your pans. Silicone trays and pans are naturally non-stick.
2. Transfer carefully. Silicone is naturally pliable, so it needs extra care when going from the countertop to the oven.
3. Twist or pull to remove. Before turning upside down, pull at the edges of the silicone baking vessel to release your baked goods.
How to choose bakeware
It can be tricky to know which type of bakeware would be best suited to your next sweet or savoury dish. Here are four common bakeware materials and their best uses:-Metal: Muffins, cakes, savoury roasting and anything that requires browning.
-Ceramic: Bread and butter pudding or any dessert or savoury dish that should be served in the dish.
-Glass: Glass conducts heat well, so pies or savoury tarts are best suited.
-Silicone: Where browning isn’t necessary or ideal (eg. macarons, cupcakes and bundt cakes).
