Centuries of Cartography

An exciting world opened up in the 1500s. Nations fought and realigned. The known globe slowly filled in. At AM we offer four globes spanning four centuries of cartography from the Renaissance to the Colonial era. They are by themselves living documents of the Age of Discovery.
All globes are handmade from specially reproduced paper gores. Twelve sections are hand glued onto a plastic (small) or paper-mache (large) sphere. Every globe is a masterwork, a combination of superior technology from the era and the artistic drawing skills of a European cartographer. Attention to detail is key. AM replicates the complicated gravure printing process, resulting in the sharpest lines, words, and symbols even on the smallest size globe. Centuries ago globes were made by gluing copperplate printed gores on a plaster finished papier-mache core. This application method continues at AM. All AM globes are made using original charts from important European archive collection originals. Our globes offer history at your fingertips and highlight some of the worlds most famous cartographers: Mercator, Hondius, Vaugondy.
Somehow the French were able to create simple yet utterly scintillating globes and globe stands. A new addition to an already extensive collection, less grandiose than some, our globe is attractive on a small desk or sideboard. Its bookshelf format is oriented to be easy on the eyes. Admire the matching age wood texture and feel, the polished sheen of bronze and brass. A required icon for a philosophers bookshelf!
